Fortress and Cathedral of Saint Peter and Saint Paul - Saint Petersburg

The Peter and Paul Cathedral is a Russian Orthodox cathedral located inside the Peter and Paul Fortress. It is the first and oldest landmark in St. Petersburg, built between 1712 and 1733. The cathedral's bell tower is the world's tallest Orthodox bell tower.  The cathedral houses the remains of almost all the Russian emperors and empresses from Peter the Great to Nicholas II and his family.

The room housing the remains of the last members of the Romanov dynasty that had ruled Russia for 300 years. In a rather modest setting - as far as Russian monuments go - are the tombs of Czar Nicholas II, his wife Alexandra as well as their four daughters and one son.

It struck me that the revolution that removed the Romanovs from power in 1917 influenced almost every event in my life.
