Las Vegas, Nevada Valley of Fire State Park
Valley of Fire State Park is a public recreation and nature preservation area covering nearly 46,000 acres about 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. It is named for the red Aztec Sandstone formations dating from over 150 million years ago. Prehistoric users of the Valley of Fire included the Anasazi, who were farmers from the nearby fertile Moapa Valley, believe to have lived here between 300 BC to 1150 AD. There are excellent petroglyphs left by the Anasazi.
