The port of Hvar, set in a picturesque natural bay, is a safe haven for boats year round. The town is a common port of call for yachts sailing around the Adriatic, especially in the summer months. With the exception of Monte Carlo, this is the most mega-yachts I have seen in one place.

The fortress was built starting in 1278, when Hvar was under Venetian rule.

The tower is part of the ruins of the Dominican Monastery and St. Mark's Church

Cathedral of St. Stephen

The cathedral is dedicated to St. Stephen – the pope, martyr and patron saint of Hvar. The cathedral building was built between the 16th and 18th century. The bell tower on the north side was built 1549-1550. There are nine Baroque altars from the 17th century decorated with pictures by Venetian artists. It was difficult to find any more information on the quite impressive art in the cathedral.
