Masmak Fortress - Riyadh |

|

|
The Masmak Fortress was built around 1865 under the reign of Muhammad bin ‘Abdullah bin Rashid, the ruler of Ha'il to the north, who had taken control of the city from the rival clan of Al Sa’ud. On January 14, 1902, ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Al Saud, who was at the time living in exile in Kuwait succeeded in capturing the Masmak fortress from its Rashid garrison. ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Al Saud was the founder of the Kingdom that bears his family name.
